Thanks for chatting with us at Sonic Sisters Magazine! Can you share a bit about how your journey into music began?
My journey started on YouTube when I was 7 years old. I posted covers on there every week.
Who have been some of the most significant influences on your musical style?
Lana Del Rey.
And which female musicians or women in the music industry have inspired your journey?
Definitely Madonna. I’ve loved her for as long as I can remember - her performances, her attitude towards her art. I actually even have a tattoo that references her, aha.
How do your personal experiences shape your songwriting, and what do you hope listeners take away from those connections?
I over-share a lot, so all of my songs are deeply personal to me. I have always found music very healing, like if I can relate to a song's story, it can really help me deal with any emotions I’m feeling, so hopefully people can experience that when they listen to my own music.
Congratulations on your brand-new single ‘The Last Thing’ - what inspired this particular song?
You know, when you have that one friend who actually really wants to see your relationship fail? This song is about that, and not letting the things that people say get between you and your partner.
What song (not your own) has had the biggest influence on you and why?
“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star. There’s no song like it, it’s its own genre in my personal opinion. The ethereal vocals and sounds - everything, it’s perfection.
Is there a song in your catalog that holds a special personal meaning for you? We'd love to hear the story or inspiration behind it.
Quite honestly, the first song that came to mind is a song I haven’t released yet. It was inspired by a specific memory I have with my boyfriend. I’ve performed it twice, and cried both times because it means so much to me.
What are some of the aspirations you have for your music moving forward?
So much so, my goals list is really, really long. Another album is definitely up there, and plenty more shows.
What advice would you give to emerging female artists who are just starting out in the music world?
Just be yourself. I know everyone says this, but it genuinely is true. Be authentic to who you are, and let that guide you. Honestly wish I’d listened to that advice sooner.
Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
You’re really cool.
