There’s a striking sense of intimacy woven throughout “Love You More,” the latest single from San Francisco-based artist Clarity Liao. Tender yet contemporary, the track marks a defining moment in the young songwriter’s evolving solo career, pairing vulnerable lyricism with smooth R&B flourishes and minimalist pop production. The result is a song that feels less like a performance and more like an emotional confession unfolding in real time.

Liao’s journey to this moment has been quietly impressive. A songwriter since childhood, she first made waves as the creative force behind Navillera, whose debut single “Too Young” earned the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award. Her talent for composition continued to gain momentum with “I Need You,” which secured first place in the YMS 2025 National Composers competition. Yet with “Love You More,” Liao shifts the focus away from accolades and toward something more personal.

Initially imagined as a soft piano ballad, the track gradually transformed into a richer sonic landscape inspired by the atmospheric R&B textures of SZA alongside the sleek modernity of BABYMONSTER. The production remains restrained throughout, allowing subtle bass grooves and delicate vocal phrasing to carry the emotional weight. Every element feels intentional, carefully preserving the song’s quiet vulnerability.

At its heart, “Love You More” explores the painful disconnect between love and understanding. The lyric “Nothing really hurts / but it hurts that you don’t know me” encapsulates the emotional tension with devastating clarity. Liao captures the loneliness of being emotionally exposed while still feeling unseen — a sentiment that resonates long after the track fades out.

The single serves as an introduction to her forthcoming EP Dear…, a conceptual project structured as a series of emotional letters reflecting on love, jealousy, loss, and self-acceptance. With “Love You More,” Clarity Liao emerges not only as a technically gifted songwriter, but as an artist capable of translating deeply internal experiences into something quietly universal. It’s a beautifully understated step forward from a voice worth paying close attention to.
