Alexandra King has lived enough for two lifetimes, and she sings like it. Her new single, “Freckles (In An Old Pub)”, is a warm and witty ode to the kinds of nights that only seem possible in Ireland—the kind where a conversation with strangers feels like destiny and the memory itself becomes the keepsake. Both playful and poignant, the track finds King at her most confident, weaving humor and heart into a tune that feels like a well-told story over a pint.

The release carries added weight when set against King’s personal journey. Just a few years ago, the Irish-American songwriter was told she might never walk again after a devastating spinal cord injury. Before that, she balanced law school with late nights on stage, splitting time between the pubs of New York and Ireland. Recovery was grueling, but music remained her constant, pulling her forward when her body lagged behind. Defying the odds, she not only regained movement but left New York as a practicing attorney to pursue a second act in Nashville.

That resilience now bleeds into her music. Produced by Dove Award-nominee Evan Sieling and mixed by Grammy-winner Craig Alvin (Kacey Musgraves), “Freckles (In An Old Pub)” is unpolished in all the right ways. King’s voice feels lived-in, earthy, and steeped in experience, while the production leaves room for her natural storytelling. The result is a rootsy, soulful track that captures the spontaneity of the moment it was born from—equal parts heartache, humor, and haze.

The song itself leans into King’s Irish roots, reveling in the kind of fleeting encounters that linger longer than they last. As King puts it, it’s inspired by “one too many hungover mornings while travelling through Ireland,” where a chance pub day turned into conversations, fake names, and goodbyes as quick as they came. It’s a reminder that not every story needs permanence to matter. Some shine brightest in their brevity, and King captures that glimmer with wry affection.

With this release, Alexandra King proves she’s not just back on her feet but fully in stride. “Freckles (In An Old Pub)” is a toast to resilience, heritage, and the strange beauty of impermanence—delivered by a voice that has weathered the storm and come out all the more compelling. If this single is any indication, her second chapter may well be her best yet.
