Danish singer-songwriter NikoCorlin has been steadily carving out her space in the alternative pop scene, captivating listeners with her deeply personal and introspective music. Since her 2021 debut single 'Swimming in Horizon', her artistry has centred on themes of self-discovery, societal struggles, and the unique challenges women face in the music industry. With reflective lyricism and silky melodies, her sound has struck a chord with audiences around the world.
Corlin’s musical journey continued to ascend with the release of her debut full-length album, Ocean Thread, in 2022. With its rich, introspective themes, the album showcased her ability to weave personal struggles with broader societal issues. NikoCorlin's music feels like an intimate diary, but her stories are universal, resonating with listeners navigating their own emotional landscapes.
Reflecting on the period after, Ocean Thread, NikoCorlin shared how the time following the album’s release was a period of creative introspection. “Last winter, I went to New York after releasing my debut album. I locked myself in a small room for five weeks to write,” she reveals. That period of self-imposed isolation allowed her to confront her self-doubt and fully immerse herself in her craft. The result of that transformative time is her latest project, If You Can Dream It, a five-song EP that continues to push her artistry into new and unfiltered territory.
Released via the Carrie Management imprint, If You Can Dream It, captures NikoCorlin’s knack for blending timeless songwriting with profound thematic depth. Each song from the EP addresses ambition, fragile relationships, and the pervasive sexism that women continue to battle in the music industry. These themes are not just backdrops but are woven intricately into the emotional core of her music.
“When I was in Brooklyn writing these songs, I felt like I had this space to confront both my own doubts and the reality that so many women in this industry face,” NikoCorlin explains. “The title is a reference to the idea that as long as you can dream and believe in it, it will succeed. Dreams can also be the ones that hurt us the most if they don’t come true, but they remain our driving force.”
To help bring the EP to life, Corlin enlisted the collaboration of talented creatives, including Julius Amdisen, Milo Duckert Aurvig, and Emil Emborg. Their contributions helped her craft a richly textured sound that blends dreamlike atmospheres with raw, unfiltered emotion. From the hauntingly introspective opener 'I’m Home I’m Here' to the upbeat and infectious 'Late To The Party', the EP’s varied sonic palette offers a deeply emotional and mesmeric listening experience.
The closing track, 'On My Own', is a standout example of NikoCorlin’s ability to balance delicate introspection with elegant, atmospheric production. Her soft, breathy vocals float over an arrangement that feels both fragile and assured, encapsulating the EP’s themes of resilience and personal growth.
Reflecting on the EP, NikoCorlin explains, “The five songs on this EP explore the different facets of being an artist, especially as a woman in the music industry. Some tracks have an intimate, introspective vibe, while others are more outspoken, inviting listeners to dance through their insecurities.” This balance between vulnerability and empowerment is a hallmark of NikoCorlin’s work and is on full display throughout, If You Can Dream It.
NikoCorlin’s sonic evolution is also evident in the EP’s production. “I worked with simple compositions, large synth surfaces, and multiple vocal tracks that capture a range of emotions—from dry and sorrowful to searching and clear,” she says. The minimalist yet expansive production allows her voice and message to shine, evoking the sensation of searching for one’s place amidst the noise and chaos.
With, If You Can Dream It, NikoCorlin continues to challenge herself, both as an artist and as a woman navigating a male-dominated industry. Her music invites listeners into her world of introspection while offering a space for healing, growth, and the unshakable power of dreams. As she moves forward, one thing is clear: NikoCorlin’s dream has only just begun, and it is one she will continue to chase with grace, grit, and undeniable talent.
