Canadian alt-pop shapeshifter GRAE isn’t interested in fitting in. With her newest release, 7 Minutes ’Til Heaven, she’s made that crystal clear. Dreamy yet dangerous, cinematic but grounded in personal truth, this album doesn’t just expand her sonic universe—it obliterates the old boundaries entirely.
From the moment Apollonia—yes, Purple Rain Apollonia—whispers the smoky overture on “American Dream”, the listener is plunged into a world that feels part fever dream, part personal manifesto. GRAE uses the language of synths, heartbreak, and feminine rage to build a narrative that’s both unrelenting and unapologetically hers.
Tracks like “Dark Energy” and “Scarlet” blur the lines between retro cool and raw vulnerability, with layered production that recalls the noir-pop aesthetics of Chromatics and the lyrical bite of early Lorde. “Motorcade” and “Fantasy” take cinematic inspiration quite literally—GRAE builds scenes with sound, letting listeners drift between realities while confronting very real emotions.
But this isn’t an album about wallowing—it’s about reclaiming. Whether it’s the divine femininity exploding through “God In A Woman” or the chaotic liberation of “Wet Dream”, 7 Minutes ’Til Heaven is the work of a young artist stepping fully into her power. It doesn’t ask for your attention—it demands it, dressed in velvet and seething with soul.
“With this album, I really wanted to push myself as an artist — beyond what I expected from myself, and what people might expect from me,” GRAE says. “I wanted to feel free creatively, to experiment with wild production ideas, and write about more than just nostalgia, love, or that lingering teenage angst. It was about inspiring myself to grow, explore new territory, push boundaries, and step outside of my comfort zone — even when it felt terrifying. It’s definitely the most mature body of work I’ve released so far — I’ve grown a lot, both as an artist and as a person.”
