Carlotta Schmidt isn't asking for permission on "Let Me Be Me"—she's making a statement. The standout track from her latest album Overthinker arrives as a heartfelt Americana anthem centered on identity, self-acceptance, and visibility, proving that some of the most impactful songs come from the most personal places.

Written in response to the persistent realities of bi-erasure and biphobia, the single captures Schmidt at her most direct and emotionally transparent. Rather than leaning into heavy-handed messaging, she allows the songwriting to do the work, delivering a narrative that feels authentic, relatable, and deeply human. It's the kind of song that invites listeners in rather than talking at them.

The instrumentation supports that emotional openness beautifully. Acoustic guitar provides the foundation while tasteful contributions from guitarist Mike Flynn, bassist Paul Avrutin, drummer Lee Finkelstein, and acclaimed cellist Dave Eggar bring warmth and texture to the arrangement. Schmidt's voice remains the focal point throughout, carrying both strength and vulnerability in equal measure.

The self-produced video expands the song's message in a powerful way. Featuring 67 participants from across the globe, each filmed on their own phones, the visual turns individual stories into a larger celebration of authenticity. Friends, musicians, advocates, nonprofit staff, and community members all contribute to a project that feels genuinely collaborative rather than performative.

There's an undeniable sense of optimism running through the release. Even as it addresses issues of representation and identity, "Let Me Be Me" never loses sight of joy, resilience, and connection. The inclusion of organizations dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy and community support reinforces that spirit while highlighting the real-world impact of visibility and acceptance.

With "Let Me Be Me," Schmidt delivers more than a compelling singer-songwriter track—she creates a space for people to see themselves reflected in the music. It's an uplifting, thoughtfully crafted release that proves personal storytelling can still be one of music's most powerful tools.
